Robotech: This long running series is broken up into several parts, three of which are now available on tape. Robotech was dubbed for American TV. and is one of the most popular Anime shown in the U.S.. Whether you like it, hate it or missed it, its influence can't be denied. Ask any old Anime fan and you will probably find it was Robotech that got them started.
The reasons for its popularity are many. Despite being aimed at children it has a consistent storyline, good characterization and enough strange and unusual stuff to keep adults interested.
The three available parts are:
Robotech: Macross: There are 6 tapes with about 6 episodes per tape in
this part of the series. Chronicled here are the events of the First
Robotech War. A giant alien spacecraft, large enough to contain a small
city, crashes to Earth. The people of Earth, formerly in the grip of
multiple small wars, unite to face a common threat. While studying and
rebuilding the alien spacecraft, now dubbed the SDF-1 (Super Dimensional
Fortress), the scientists discover a warlike alien race is coming to
reclaim it. Work goes full steam ahead to repair the ship and master its
alien technology for Earth's defense. Over the course of the series there
are many small stories and subplots in addition to the main plot of
saving the Earth from Alien invaders. There is combat; romance; and grief
over the deaths of loved ones. Robotech has it all.
Robotech: Southern Cross: There are 4 tapes with 3 episodes per tape in this part of the series so far (more coming). Chronicled here are the events of the Second Robotech War.
A generation after Macross, The Robotech Masters, those who sent the
warlike Zentraedi to Earth for the First Robotech War, are on their way
to Earth. The SDF-1 and 2 are destroyed; the SDF-3 left long ago on a
mission to the Masters homeworld. Their fate is unknown. Left behind to
protect the Earth is The Army of the Southern Cross, headed by General
Leonard. These new Robotech defenders must strive to fight off the
Robotech Masters and save the Earth from destruction once again.
Robotech:The New Generation: There are 8 tapes with 3 episodes per tape in this part of the series. Chronicled here are the events of The Third Robotech War, the final one.
The alien Invid have taken over the Earth and are using it as a
springboard for the next phase of their race's artificially induced
evolution. The Invid Flower of Life, instrumental in this evolution, is
the source of Protoculture; the power source of Robotechnology. As the
series opens a detachment of the SDF-3's space fleet is being destroyed
by the Invid. The only survivor, Scott Bernard-a young Robotech warrior,
crash lands a shuttle on Earth. He is completely alone; all of his
friends as well as his fiancee' are dead, Scott sets off toward Reflex
Point, the main Invid stronghold on Earth. Along the way he builds a
small team of resistance fighters devoted to freeing the Earth from the
Invid blight. One big Problem: their Robotech vehicles and weaponry emit
an energy signature when active that the Invid can easily home in on. So
they must trek towards Reflex Point slowly, using their equipment only
when absolutely necessary, having many adventures and trials on their
mission.
