Hi there. I like your descriptions and explanations of anime. However,in Anime Watch #8, you said that hentai, like american live porn, has little to no plot. Now, maybe I've been lucky, but all of the hentai that I've seen has had pretty good plot. Granted, most of the stuff I watch would be considered tame when placed next to american porn, but it would still be "X" or "NC-17". Your article kinda gives people the idea that they want to latch on to. "Hentai has no point other than to display sex, and therefore is evil, furthermore, that means that anyone who watches hentai is evil."
Of course, most people who think that way have only seen Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball, but it's still annoying, and it's something that I think should change.

My Response:

No offense intended, but I think you should go back and read the article more carefully. I said "Like their live-action, American cousins, **many** of these shows are short on plot" (emphasis added). Then I went on to explain " fortunate side effect of the licensing and translation process that makes Anime available in the USA is that most of the poor quality shows are filtered out.". A lot of the hentai that has been licensed is the better stuff. For every one of those, there are many that are utter drek. Actually, the same goes for non-hentai as well.

Hi, it's -------- again. For some reason, my ------------------- account doesn't want to send e-mail to you. It says that mailing your address is denied or something like that. Anyway, here's what I typed...
hmmmm...Like I said, people are grasping at what they want to hear. It's not so much that I disagree with your article, it's more that it will give the wrong impression to those who want to be told that they are right. I guess it doesn't really matter, since those kind of people will just ignore a person if they think he is wrong. Good point, didn't want to anger you or anything, I just had a bad day of finding "Sailor Moon, Proud to say NO to Hentai" sites yesterday. BTW, do you play Shadowrun???

That's odd.

I see the possibility, but I don't think any amount of reasoning will reach those people.

Don't worry, you didn't. I just tend to respond to such things in a formal/logical debate style. One of the hazards of having minored in philosophy, I guess.

I watched Sailor Moon once. ONCE!

> BTW, do you play Shadowrun???

Nope. Used to play AD&D and Call Of Cthulhu, but its been a while. I suppose I could try a game again while I'm not running one of the anime rooms at Total Confusion (info on that convention available at my website).
